Gertrude “Trudi” B. (Hendricks) Nitschke, 81, most recently of Huron and formerly Fremont, passed away Monday, Oct. 7, 2019, with her son Brian and his wife Wendy by her side.
She was born Feb. 13, 1938, in Fremont, the daughter of John and Etta (Stauffer) Hendricks.
Trudi was a homemaker and a wonderful mother to her six children, even under some adverse conditions. She was a lover of classical music and a gifted pianist who aspired to study the instrument at the college level, but she ultimately put it on hold to raise her family. Trudi enjoyed reading, needlepoint, crossword puzzles, cooking, and watching court shows on TV. She and her mother spent special time together giving back to their community as volunteers at the local hospital.
Surviving are her children, Brian (Wendy) Nitschke of Sandusky, Trisha Baum of Fremont, Alan Nitschke of Eastlake, Terry (Nina Goodrick) Nitschke of Oak Harbor, Kevin (Linda) Nitschke of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., Susan (David) Vandergrift of Goldsboro, N.C.; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and the staff at The Meadows at Osborn Park who became a surrogate family as they treated her with love, respect, and dignity.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Sylvia Abbott; brother, John “JL” Hendricks; and husband, Albert.
Honoring Trudi's wishes, cremation has taken place, and there will be no services.
Those wishing to leave a memorial contribution in her memory may consider the Sandusky Orchestra Parents Association, 2130A Hayes Ave., Sandusky, OH 44870.
