Larry L. Barnthouse, 79, of Plymouth, Ohio passed away on Friday, September 20, 2019. Larry was born on May 2, 1940 to the late James Barnthouse and Claramay Naistettler in Willard, Ohio. He married the love of his life, Ella (Dyer) Barnthouse on July 11, 1963 in the Willard Church of God. They spent over 56 years together and raised four children. Larry proudly served his country by joining the U.S. Army. He served in the Vietnam War. After the war, Larry returned home and continued to serve in the Army National Guard, retiring after 23 years of service as a Sergeant First Class. During his military career, Larry served in the Corp of Engineers and was also a small arms and demolition expert.
Larry was a truck driver by trade, learning how to drive at the age of 10. Larry hauled fresh produce for Buurma’s, steel for Valley Steel, drove for White Trucking, Winston and eventually retired from Decker Trucking. Larry also enjoyed driving for fun, having collected many cars over the years. He also enjoyed marksmanship and collecting knives.
Larry enjoyed arts and crafts. He was a gifted sketch artist, known for his realistic drawings. He also crocheted, making many gloves for needy children, baby blankets for family and friends, and blankets and caps for veterans.
Larry is survived by his wife, Ella Barnthouse; his children: Christiena (David) White, James (Linda) Barnthouse, Larry Barnthouse, and Rusty Barnthouse; his grandchildren; Michael Harman, Michelle Schlena, James Barnthouse, Robert Barnthouse, Makayla Barnthouse, and Haylee Barnthouse; great grandchildren Camron Welchko and Logan Welchko; siblings: Alfred Wilson, Ada Lucille Clagg, Daniel Wilson, and Lillian Harmoning. Larry will be reunited in heaven with his parents and siblings: Howard Wilson, Jackie Wilson, Johnny Wilson, Samuel Wilson, Bobbie Meredith, Mary Lou Hopple, Billy Wilson, and Nancy Wilson.
Visitation for Larry will be held on Tuesday, September 24, 2019 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the Hanneman Funeral Home, 323 Myrtle Avenue, Willard, Ohio 44890. Larry’s Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at 11:00 AM in the Highest Praise Church, 42 West Jefferson Avenue, Shelby, Ohio 44875. Interment will immediately follow in the Greenwood Cemetery in Willard, Ohio.
