Gerda L. Neumann

Gerda L. Neumann, 97, of Fremont, Ohio passed away peacefully on Monday May 16, 2022 at the Valley View Health Campus.

Gerda was born on May 25, 1924 in Kolberg, Germany to the late Karl and Lydia (Westphal) Schulz. She married Rolf Neumann on July 10, 1948 and he preceded her in death in 1993. Gerda is survived by her children: Dorothy Clarke (Curt) of Oak Harbor and Hans (Peggy) Neumann of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin; grandchildren: Christopher (Roxanne) Neumann, Erik Neumann and Jessica Neumann and Jason Culver and 5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her grandson Andrew Culver and siblings: Gunter, Ursula and Traude.

Gerda immigrated from Germany in 1956 with her husband Rolf and son Hans to New York and then made their home in Fremont, Ohio. Gerda worked for the Fremont City Schools in the cafeteria where she affectionally received the nickname “Salad Lady” and retired after 25 years of service. She was a faithful member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Fremont and was a volunteer with Share & Care and was member and volunteered with the Sandusky County Senior Citizen Center and the Golden Threads. Gerda enjoyed traveling the United States with her husband Rolf and in her later years with her close friends. Gerda also enjoyed cooking, baking and was an excellent seamstress. She was kindhearted and would help where she was needed Most of all, Gerda loved her family and cherished the time she spent with them.

A Private Graveside Service will be held in Gerda’s honor in the Greenlawn Memory Gardens.

Arrangements have been entrusted with the Hanneman-Keller Funeral Home, 416 S. Arch St., Fremont, Ohio 43420.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Gerda’s honor to St. John’s Lutheran Church., 212 N. Clover St., Fremont, Ohio 43420.
