JW Simpson

JW Simpson, 87, of Lima, went to be with the Lord on May 29, 2023 at 3:05am at Lima Memorial Health System. He was born on May 10, 1936, in Columbus GA., to Sammie Lee and Bertha (Clark) Simpson. Both parents preceded him in death. On November 29,1959, JW and Ella Mae Thompson were united in holy matrimony.  Ella Mae survives in Lima. They were married for 63 years, and were sweethearts, and truly loved each other. July 30, 1976 JW accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.

He was a Veteran, US Army, Airborne Infantry, and so proud of his service. JW retired from General Motors in Defiance with 42 years of service, as a Furnace Operator and a proud member of UAW Local 211. JW was a God fearing, hard- working family man.  JW and Ella Mae raised their family in a loving, faith filled household, which was a true testament to their commitment to God and family. He was a diehard Cleveland Browns Fan, and whenever the Browns played, he didn’t want any distractions. He also enjoyed fishing, watching westerns (especially RifleMan).

He is survived by 3 daughters; Tawanda Jones of Lima, Ginnice Smith of Union City TN., and Carmalina Simpson of Westerville, OH; 3 sons: Jay W. (Canaia) Simpson Jr of Toledo, OH,  Anthony Simpson of Lima, and Ardell (Kendra) Simpson of Celina, OH. JW and Ella have 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. His siblings are: Bertha (Joe) Upshaw of Lima, Josephine Brown of Lima, Willa Simpson of Lima, and Samuel (Sue) Simpson of Lima. He was preceded in death by his son-in law Earnest Smith, 3 brothers; Charlie Simpson, Ector Simpson, Leroy Simpson, 2 brothers-in-law; Clarence Brown and Clifford Watson, and 2 sisters; Sarah Shine, and Ella Mae Watson.

Friends may call at Hanneman-Siferd Funeral Home, 506 N. Cable Rd. Lima OH 45805.  Friday, June 2, 2023 from 10am-12noon viewing time, and the service will be conducted at 12 noon, it will be officiated by Rev. James Bolling III. Immediately following the services, JW will be taken to Memorial Park Cemetery, to be interred in the mausoleum, with Veterans Honors by the US Army, VFW 1275 Honor Guard, and the Patriot Guard Riders.
