James Shafer, 73, of South Pittsburg, Tennessee, died Monday, January 27, 2020.
Born on September 25, 1946 in Holgate, Ohio to the late Earl David & Twila Ellen Warner Shafer, he lived in Allen, Michigan for many years where he raised dairy and beef cattle, specialty pigs, and operated a worm farm. While in Allen, he had the privilege of driving for Morris Cerullo World Evangelism and Freedom Sound throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico. He also lived several years in Lagrange, Georgia where he was active in his church and sold real estate.
He was a self-employed long-haul truck driver for over 55 years and was a founding board member of the Alpha-Omega Pregnancy Care Center in Hillsdale, Michigan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant sister, Gloria Shafer, brother-in-law, Herb Arps, wife, Kenna Shafer, and grandson, Mitchel Lee.
He is survived by his daughters, Debby (William) Johnson of South Pittsburg, Tennessee, Brenda (Jason) Webb of Coldwater, Michigan, Tish (Angelo) Anagnostu of Reading, Michigan, and Tracy Muskasmith of Coldwater, Michigan; grandchildren, Michael & Barbie, Levi & Naomi, Jessica, Kelly & Brady, Michael & Crystal, Sara & Ian, Danielle & Andrew, and Chantel; eleven great-grandchildren; sister, Carolyn Arps of Napoleon, Ohio; brother, Terry (Sherry) Shafer of Delta, Ohio; several close nieces and nephews; and honorary daughter, Melissa Stocker.
Visitation will be at Colton Methodist Church, 547 Henry St, Colton, Ohio 43510 on Saturday, February 1, 2020 from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. followed by the funeral service. Interment will be at Mohler-Union Cemetery.
