May 27, 1923 ~ April 28, 2019 (age 95) 95 Years Old

Anna M. Niceley Tanner, 95, of Grand Rapids, Ohio passed away April 28, 2019. Anna was born on May 27, 1923 to Henry Jr. and Helen (Older) Carman in Grand Rapids, Ohio. She married Alva L. Niceley on June 7, 1941 in Waterville, Ohio. Five children were born to this union: Thomas (Sue) of Springboro; Kenneth (Shari), James (Linda), and Cathy Ward all of McClure; and Joseph (Lou) of Bowling Green. Alva served in World War II in the Army and died on May 16, 1977 after a long illness. Anna was a child care giver until marrying Leslie Tanner on June 9, 1988. They traveled to Florida and to many of Les’s Navy reunions and had a lot of good times. Left to mourn is her sister: Mary “Toby” Taylor of Swanton; Anna’s children; and step children: Timothy Tanner of Florida; Dennis Tanner of Toledo; Deborah Brown of Florida, and Nancy Krout of Weston; 13 grandchildren, and a host of loving great grandchildren, step grandchildren, and step great grandchildren. Anna was preceded in death by her sister Lucille Woodling.
Anna lived her whole life in the Grand Rapids area and graduated from Grand Rapids High School in 1941. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, and was a lifetime Auxiliary member of the Alva M. Sidle American Legion Post #232.
Visitation for Anna will be held on Friday, May 3, 2019 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM in the Wright-Hanneman Funeral Home, 24084 W. Second Street, Grand Rapids, Ohio tele: 419-832-2511. Funeral services for Anna will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Interment will immediately follow in Highland Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Anna’s honor may be gifted to Calvary United Methodist Church, Grand Rapids Little League, or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
